UPS and USPS have a longstanding but evolving partnership focused on cost-effective parcel delivery, particularly for economy services. As of early 2026, they've renewed their collaboration after a brief pause in 2025. This renewal allows USPS to handle final-mile delivery for a portion of UPS's Ground Saver (previously known as SurePost) and Mail Innovations shipments, where UPS manages the initial transport and hands off packages to USPS for the last leg to residential addresses. The partnership aims to optimize costs, expand coverage, and improve efficiency for low-priority, non-urgent shipments.
Steps to take if you don’t see your package:
· If you don’t see your package after you have been notified that it was delivered, go to the tracking page for the carrier and click on the “Proof of Delivery” details.
- Search the area thoroughly: Packages can sometimes be left in less obvious spots like behind plants, under doormats, in mailboxes, or even at a back/side door by mistake. Also, check with neighbors in case of misdelivery to the wrong address.
- Review security footage: If you have doorbell cameras (e.g., Ring) or home surveillance, pull footage around 3:44 pm on March 7 to see if the delivery occurred and if theft followed (porch piracy is common).
- Contact local contacts: Ask household members, roommates, or anyone else at the address if they picked it up without notifying.
File with USPS (Primary Step)
If USPS handled the final-mile delivery and provided the delivery scan, they're responsible for investigating post-handoff issues like this. UPS typically won't accept claims once the package is transferred (as shown in the "Departed Shipping Partner Facility" scan).
- Submit a Missing Mail Search Request: This is the official process for items marked delivered but not received. Go to missingmail.usps.com (or search "USPS Missing Mail" online) and fill out the form with:
- The USPS tracking number
- Sender and recipient addresses.
- Item description (size, weight, contents if known).
- Photos of the packaging if available.
- Any other details like expected value. USPS recommends waiting 7 days from the delivery date before filing, but you can submit earlier if theft is suspected—it's only been about a day here, so monitor for any delayed arrivals first. They'll email a confirmation and updates; if found, it'll be forwarded.
- Call your local post office: Contact post office directly: 1-800-ASK-USPS to get connected. Provide the tracking number and ask to speak with the delivery supervisor or carrier—they can check internal records, GPS data from the scanner (if available for this delivery), or confirm the exact drop-off spot.
- If theft is suspected: Report it to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455 (their hotline for mail theft/fraud). Also file a police report with local law enforcement for potential insurance or follow-up.
